Member of Parliament for North Andros and the Berry Islands, Leonardo Lightbourne spoke with ZNS News on Thursday after the Constituencies Commission Report, tabled in the House of Assembly on Wednesday, revealed that the Berry Islands will now form a new constituency with Bimini.
Lightbourne said he is open to running for the Bimini and Berry Islands constituency and reflected on his term as representative for the Berry Islands. He said, “first of all I just want to say thank you first and foremost to the constituents of Berry Islands for the four and a half glorious years. We had our ups and downs however, they will always be a part of me and I will always be a part of them. In regards to the service that was rendered however, we had a lot of projects that was done and a few more that are still in the pipeline. And however, governments are successive so I understand that not being in place doesn’t change the fact that what’s already planted that the tree will soon produce.”
The Berry Islands MP also addressed the combination of Bimini with the Berry Islands. “In terms of Bimini, Bimini is already a growing economy just like Berry Islands, Great Harbour Cay with Coco Cay and Great Stirrup. You have the Hilton, RW down there and then a lot of tourism opportunities, of course. You know they are strictly based on tourism. However, the opportunity for myself and Biminites, if the opportunity presents itself, of course, I think I’ll fit right in,” Lightbourne said.
Lightbourne said that he is open to which ever constituency that he is offered by the Progressive Liberal Party.
