Parliamentary Commissioner, Harrison Thompson recently met with the Data Protection Commissioner to discuss the protection of the data that will be collected from the electorate for the new biometric voter card system.
Thompson assured members of the public on Wednesday that there is nothing to worry about. He said, “with the data protection policy and the laws in the country. We are sure that everything will be secured and the public at large can rest assured that whatever they give to the Parliamentary Registration Department will be secured. They don’t have to worry about it getting in the wrong hands.”
The Parliamentary Commissioner also addressed the security of the e-poll book. “It you tamper with the e-poll book or anything dealing with the biometric card there’s a penalty of $10,000 or twelve years in prison or both,” Thompson said.
He advised those who try to tamper with the voting process will be identified and dealt with according to the law.
