Member of Parliament for Golden Isles and Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, the Hon. Vaughn Miller was pronounced dead at Doctors Hospital in the early morning hours of Sunday, September 28th.
Police released a statement informing that an adult male was found unconscious in a vehicle on Sears Hill who was transported to hospital. Director of Communications in the Office of the Prime Minister, Latrae Rahming later confirmed it was Minister Miller. He also informed reporters outside of the hospital that the Prime Minister was told of the incident.
Statements of condolence have poured in for the fallen Cabinet minister. In a statement Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis said, “Vaughn’s story is one that reflects the best of our country. Born in Eleuthera, he grew up with values rooted in faith, family, and community. Those values never left him. They shaped his career and his life of service.”
The Prime Minister continued saying, “when he joined the Progressive Liberal Party, he did so with the same conviction that had defined his life. That service was sacred, and that every decision should be weighed against the needs of the Bahamian people. In Cabinet, he gave steady counsel. As Minister of Environment and Natural Resources, he carried our country’s message to the world: that we are stewards of God’s creation, and that protecting our land and waters is not a choice but a duty.”
Deputy Prime Minister Cooper expressed that it was an honour to serve with the late Minister. He said, “he will be remembered for devoting the last years of his life to serving The Bahamas and seeking always to uplift Bahamians.”
Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard also offered condolences. He said, “many knew him first as a radio personality, where his calm and steady voice connected him to countless Bahamians. During my time in the Minnis Administration, I had the privilege of working with him on issues that later became central to his ministerial portfolio. He was deeply passionate about the environment, committed to stewardship of our natural resources, and determined to see a better Bahamas for future generations.”
Among the others sending messages of condolence were Minister of State for Environment and Natural Resources, the Hon. Zane Lightbourne; Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon. Dr. Michael Darville; Minister of Immigration and National Insurance, the Hon. Alfred Sears and the Free National Movement Candidate for Golden Isles, Brian Brown.
The Late Hon. Vaughn Miller was 64 at the time of his passing.
