BTC, the nation’s leading telecommunications provider, has announced the appointment of Dominic Petty as Head of Family Island Technical Operations, a strategic step to accelerate the company’s ambitious 2026 digital transformation agenda.
With a proven record of technical leadership and innovation, Petty will drive BTC’s next phase of growth, operational excellence, and infrastructure modernization across the Family Islands.
Petty, who joined BTC in 2023 and most recently served as Head of Operations for the Northern Bahamas, has been central to several of the company’s landmark successes. Under his stewardship, BTC completed a comprehensive overhaul of the fixed network in Grand Bahama – an ambitious programme that has effectively created the nation’s first end-to-end smart city.
That next-generation digital ecosystem integrates advanced connectivity, IoT innovation and intelligent urban services, raising quality of life for residents and opening new pathways for local and international investment.
In August, BTC reached another important milestone with the successful launch of BTC Air Network in Bimini, a deployment that ignited digital transformation on the island. Building on that achievement, the company is now rolling out BTC Air across Eleuthera and preparing for broader deployment across the Family Islands, subject to regulatory approvals.
Over an initial fifteen-month pilot in Bimini, customers experienced marked improvements in speed, reliability, and service breadth – from seamless internet and expanded television offerings to dependable landline connectivity.
“Dominic’s appointment is a decisive moment in BTC’s transformation,” said Sameer Bhatti, CEO, BTC.
“Access to fast, reliable Internet should be universal, not exclusive, and Dominic has been instrumental in turning that principle into reality – from the full restoration of our Grand Bahama network to delivering the nation’s first smart city. His leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to customers make him the right person to lead our Family Island operations as we scale modernization efforts across the country. In this expanded role he will spearhead the technical roadmap that ensures BTC continues to lead with vision, resilience, and tangible customer outcomes.”
Commenting on his new role, Petty said: “the past few years have been both challenging and inspiring. Restoring our Grand Bahama network and introducing BTC Air Network in Bimini demonstrated what focused teams and world-class technology can achieve. I am honoured by the trust placed in me and excited to lead our Family Islands into a new era of connectivity and opportunity.”
To strengthen operational capacity in the southern islands, BTC has also appointed Crispin Dorsett as Senior Manager, Technical Operations, Southern Bahamas. Dorsett joins BTC from the Exuma International Airport Authority, where he served as General Manager, and brings experience across information technology and hospitality operations. He will manage day-to-day technical operations in the Southern Bahamas and develop a roadmap for service improvement and technical
advancement.
BTC’s drive to introduce tailored, next-generation technology to the Family Islands began with the pilot of BTC Air Network in Bimini and has continued through targeted investments and community-centred deployments. The company is committed to expanding these services to more islands, delivering faster, more reliable connectivity, and creating platforms for economic and social advancement.
