The OWN Bahamas Program has awarded financial assistance to local startups and entrepreneurs for the past ten years.
Six business owners were presented with grants of varying amounts totally $80,000 this week. OWN Bahamas Founder, Sebas Bastian spoke at the presentation. He said, “there’s no one in the world knows how to put in work, work hard everyday, put in the discipline and still lack the resources than an entrepreneur.”
Bastian said the program started as a simple vision that has turned into a movement where Bahamians can find opportunity and support. He said Bahamians deserve to own a piece of this economy.
Bastian, himself a successful business owner, also outlined some of the achievements of the OWN Bahamas Program. He said, “we’ve already invested over $350,000 this year in master classes particularly focused on artificial intelligence training to make sure that no one is left behind. We have invested over $4 million to date of this program and ladies and gentlemen we are just getting started.”
Among grant recipients were Seams and Notions, Women’s Haven, Tropical Carvings, Tranquil Leaders, Glambot and Luxe Portable Restrooms.
