Bahamas Union of Teachers (BUT) President, Belinda Wilson recently provided an update on relations between the union and the government. Her comments came following industrial action taken back in October along with the Bahamas Public Services Union (BPSU).
Wilson and BPSU President, Kimsley Ferguson delivered to the Office of the Prime Minister on October 15th outlining their grievances and concerns. The unions are yet to receive a response to the letter.
The BUT President also recently issued a survey to members in Grand Bahama to ascertain the concerns of teachers. She said, “so we await the results of that survey as to whether or not we will take further industrial action based on us not receiving a response and the myriad of concerns that we have.”
According to Wilson correspondence has been sent to the Commissioner of Police seeking permission to stage a march and protest in New Providence and Grand Bahama. Wilson said, “so I’m just awaiting the results of the survey and once our members say go, we will be going forward.”
