According to the latest labour force numbers released by the Bahamas National Statistical Institute unemployment decreased in the second quarter of 2025 to 9.3%
Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey recently shared that the decline in unemployment on that island was expected based on ongoing developments. She said, “there’s over $3.5 billion of investments, so things are happening. So I expected there to be a reduction in the unemployment. And I believe that even if you dig deeper and peel back that numbers I know that Grand Bahama is perhaps even lower.”
The Hon. Pia Glover-Rolle who has responsibility for labour and the public service was also recently on the island of Grand Bahama. She told reporters decreasing unemployment is a priority for the government.
“Our administration is doing all we can to ensure that we’re addressing the skills gap, we’re addressing all of the employability issues. So that comes along with expansion of our BTVI campuses even to Grand Bahama, expansion of the offerings at our national training agency. You’ve seen the government launch the National Youth Guard, a national apprenticeship program, recently Digilearn, recently Upskill Bahamas and so many other opportunities for Bahamians to either reskill or gain skills. Some, in some instances in a stipendiary basis, and of course, all that we’ve noted are free for our citizens. These are direct solutions that we see that are impacting our employment numbers and driving them in the right direction, which is into the single digits,” Glover-Rolle said.
The labour minister also encouraged Bahamians from the family islands to take advantage of opportunities that will become available on those islands due to various projects underway.
She also applauded the Department of Labour for their work in conducting numerous jobs fairs on the island which has assisted many people in finding employment.
