The Ministry of Education and Technical & Vocational Training (MOETVT) held a boat handover ceremony for the UMP Barracudas, a Class E sloop, at the Uriah McPhee Primary School, Monday, June 16, 2025.
The handover ceremony was the culmination of cooperation and collaboration between the ministry, private sector entities such as the Bahamas National Sailing School, and individuals such as Mr. Lloyd Sands, a boat builder.
What began as a conversation between persons became a reality when after two years, the ‘Barracuda’ is ready to sail.
The building of the sloop at the school, allowed students, teachers, parents and school staff to learn about boat building and sailing through conversations possibly opening new avenues of positivity for the future.
