Minister of Energy, Utilities and Aviation, the Hon. Jobeth Coleby-Davis addressed the summer readiness of Bahamas Power and Light while in Abaco on Friday.
The minister’s comments came after a spate of power outages in New Providence and the Family Islands. She said, “we prepared our system, our summer readiness, our generation, while at the same time doing our foundational work. Our foundational work sometimes put anomalies and inconvenience on some of our circuits and as a result of the stress and the pressure from the heat that we experienced this year. It caused a lot of disruptions which we have been managing. But based on what our technical advice and guidance was from the numbers and the work that we did in our summer readiness program, everything was ready to withstand a summer that is normally captured here.”
There were two island-wide blackouts in New Providence in July along with prolonged outages in pockets of the island over the summer period thus far.
