Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis spoke to reporters while attending the 2024 New Year’s Day Junkanoo Parade. Among other things he spoke to his administration’s plans for 2024.
Davis said, “I am acutely aware and I feel the pain that has been produced by the external shocks that has spiked the cost of living. It’s not peculiar to The Bahamas. It impacts us more because of the fact that we are a consumptive economy meaning that everything we have comes from abroad. So our emphasis, particularly this year is to see how much more food we can grow ourselves, to feed ourselves, to have less reliance on imports and do those things that we think that will lower the cost of living.”
The Prime Minister also spoke about consumer protection and decreasing the cost of electricity.
