A ceremony was held in Grand Bahama on Wednesday to mark the reopening of the Department of Agriculture Animal Control Unit and Public Market building after extensive renovations.
Government officials traveled to Grand Bahama for the occasion led by Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources. During his remarks he said, “today is not simply about reopening a building. Today is about reaffirming our commitment to you, the people of Grand Bahama. “
He continued saying, “a public market is more than a structure, imagine, it is an economic hub. It creates direct opportunities for Bahamians to sell what they grow. How about we turn our attention to the Animal Control Unit. An effective animal control unit is also essential to maintaining public health and safety and responsible management within communities.”
Director of Agriculture, Dr. Jason Sands and Permanent Secretary, Neil Campbell were also on hand at the event.
The building has been closed since September 2025.
