With the opening of the new Nassau Cruise Port expectations are high for the full revitalization of downtown Nassau.

Residents and visitors alike are impressed with the new $300 million facility. Cruise Passenger George Booth told ZNS News, “when I come the first time they had the hair weaving and all the shops on the other side of the street. Now its all pushed back, the area now has shops on both sides, very nice, well built.”

Bahamian Dwight Jones said, “I’m hoping that the entertainment element that’s now missing on Bay Street, that can be focused on the eastern end. So more of a focus on entertainment, on social life, that that happens because that’s a critical part of thriving of any touristic destination that we are.”

Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis also spoke to the issue saying, “the need for the creation of more attractions is critical going forward and the need to ensure that east of Bay Street becomes more attractive so that we can draw the passengers of the ship. So yes, plans are now being developed to ensure that we develop east of Bay Street.”
