Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper responded to comments made by the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Michael Pintard at a press conference on Sunday on the prorogation of Parliament.

Cooper spoke to reporters on the issue on the sidelines of the Ministry of Education and Technical and Vocational Training Administrators Conclave.  He said, “there’s a reason why Pintard is in opposition and we’re in government. We’re in government, we are the government of the day and we will lead as we see fit.  The Prime Minister has made a determination that we’re going to reset.  We’re going to return on October 4th and it is what it is. We’ve accomplished more than one hundred pieces of legislation passed in the House Of Assembly.  We have a great agenda lined up for the future and we are going to stay focused on the mission.”

The Deputy Prime Minister also gave a preview of the government’s new legislative agenda.  “We know that the new cannibis legislation is coming this year.  The Attorney General has indicated that its been completed.  On the tourism management side I hope that we will see the downtown management bill.  It’s been substantially completed by the Attorney General for the ongoing development, management,  revitalization of Bay Street.  But the reality is that Prime Minister will lay out in due course the legislative agenda and you should anticipate a speech from the throne this sets out all of the details for the upcoming three years.”
