Officials of the Disaster Reconstruction Authority (DRA) toured the construction site of the Abaco Hurricane Shelter on Tuesday.
DRA Executive Chairman Alex Storr led the delegation and said, “today we are in Central Pines on the site of our hurricane shelter. We attended a site meeting with the contractor and the engineers, went over some of the progress and some of the questions I had in regards of works that need to be completed. We had a very good meeting, progress is looking good. We have made the necessary corrections on the design that we met in place and I think that we are on schedule to be complete by the end of the year.”
Storr continued elaborating on some of the issues they have encountered. He said, “one of the major issues was issues with the foundation. Those have been just about rectified now. We’re happy with the solution that the contractor come up and now I can sleep a lot better knowing that the people of Abaco will be safe once this shelter is utilized.”
The DRA Chairman also sent a message to the residents of Grand Bahama and Abaco saying, “we hear your complaints. We know that there are issues and things have not done as fast as they would wish but there are necessary things that we had to do to make sure that they’re done properly. We feel quite secure that those things are in place now and you’ll see a lot of activity from the DRA in the next coming weeks.”
