The island of Exuma has been experiencing extreme flooding due to inclement weather. Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Exuma and Ragged Island commented on conditions on the island.
The Hon. Chester Cooper said, “I’ve spoken with the Minister of Works as well as the Minister for Local Government. Local government is engaged with seeing how we can pump as much water as possible. Also use heavy equipment to create drain offs for some of the water particularly from the street. In the meantime, we ask that you exercise extreme caution, try to avoid driving through water. It difficult to gauge the depth of the water and its also extremely dangerous trying to gauge the sides of the road. So please be careful, stay put, only move when necessary. We’re providing all the help we can and our thoughts and prayers are with you.”
