The government signed three power purchasing agreements on Wednesday for the construction of solar powered microgrids on New Providence and some family islands.
Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis was in attendance at the signing ceremony. He revealed that light bills which have already decreased will be lowered further. He said, “in the near future frequent power outages will be a thing of the past.
He went further stating, “we have expedited progress across all fronts expanding our LNG and solar capacity throughout New Providence and the family islands.”
Eco Energy Bahamas Ltd has signed on to construct a 20MW solar plant with 5MWh battery in New Providence at Coral Harbour. Solar plants will also be constructed Wilson City, Abaco; Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera and George Town, Exuma.
Minister of Transport and Energy, the Hon. Jobeth Coleby-Davis said, “to be clear this moment is an opportunity for The Bahamas to lead in sustainable energy generation, reduce carbon emissions and secure a brighter future for our citizens.”
