Commissioner of Police, Shanta Knowles led a press conference on Monday where she spoke about the discovery of more than two dozen firearms, ammunition and suspected marijuana on Friday. The find was a result of a joint operation between the Royal Bahamas Police Force and Bahamas Customs.
Knowles said, “around 3pm we began the operation and shortly before 5pm we stopped a vehicle in the western portion of New Providence. Upon searching that vehicle, which contained a number of household appliances, we found what you see here today.”
The weapons, ranging from handguns to high powered rifles, along with ammunition and drugs were displayed on a table in the press room. “In this haul we have twenty five weapons that were recovered. Two of them revolvers, eleven of them are pistols (one of which is a ghost gun) twelve of them are rifles (nine of which are ghost guns) and twenty nine magazines. Two hundred and forty rounds of .40 ammunition, 3081 rounds of 0.9mm ammunition, 837 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, 50 rounds of 0.38 ammunition and 143 rounds of 300 ammunition,” Knowles said.
The discovery also included 44 packages of suspected marijuana weighed at 49.6 pounds with a street valued of approximately $198,000.
The Commissioner expressed that the weapons would continue to create fear on the streets and if in the hands of the wrong people.
