Videos and photos of a foreign news crew at the scene of a murder that took place on Hospital Lane in Bain Town went viral on social media as Bahamians speculated that the crew was here to document crime in The Bahamas.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments and Aviation, the Hon. Chester Cooper addressed the issue outside of the House Of Assembly on Wednesday. He told reporters, “we have nothing to hide. We’ve been very transparent about the issue that we faced. This has been carried in the international press before. We have spoken with them, tourism professionals, have spoken directly with them really to help to educate the international community, if you will, about the nature of incidences where they are occurring and the plan that being put in place by the police and the Ministry of National Security.”
There have been approximately 25 murders in the country since the start of the year. The United States and Canada have both issued travel advisories for their citizens.
