Freda Hart, 80, and her grandson James were convicted on gun related charges on the island of Grand Bahama and sentenced to prison at the Bahamas Department of Corrections.

The pair appeared before Magistrate Laing to face the charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm along with ammunition. According to the report a search warrant was executed at a home in December 2020 where the firearm was discovered after Ms. Hart tried to conceal the 0.9 mm weapon.

James Hart admitted to ownership of the weapon and later asked for mercy for his grandmother in court, however, he was advised by the Magistrate that it was too late for that.

James Hart received 30 months and 2 years in prison respectively on his charges and Freda Hart received 12 months imprisonment on each charge against her. Both individuals will serve their sentences concurrently.
