On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, Grand Bahama swim team athletes were welcomed home at Western Air Airport by government officials, family and friends after an impressive 4-peat win at the 30th Goodwill Swimming Championships in Trinidad and Tobago.
Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey expressed pride in the young athletes and their accomplishments.
“I am so proud of our young people, our swimmers. Grand Bahama had eight participants for the 2026 Goodwill Games and we brought it home for the fourth time,” she said.
Minister Moxey also emphasized the importance of promoting and encouraging swimming in The Bahamas, particularly on Grand Bahama and noted the Government’s efforts to provide better swimming facilities on the island, including the Grand Bahama Aquatics Centre.
“Grand Bahama always plays a key role when it comes to swimming and in other sports, so we just want to continue to encourage them and do our part to support their endeavours,” Minister Moxey said.
Deputy Director of Sports, Norris Bain also commended the athletes and coaches for their outstanding achievement, noting that while winning a championship once is an impressive accomplishment, securing the title four consecutive times is a remarkable feat for the Bahamas aquatics team.
Team Bahamas secured the championship title with a total of 1,378 points, earning 41 gold, 40 silver and 41 bronze medals with 19 (5 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze medals) of those medals proudly earned by Grand Bahama athletes.
