Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Roberto Goodman has assumed office as the Officer in Charge of the Northern Bahamas.
Goodman has extensive training and heads the Drug Enforcement Unit nationally. He was promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police in 2023 and Senior Assistant Commissioner in 2025.
The new Northern Bahamas top cop spoke with reporters about the role on Wednesday. He said, “I just was transferred recently here some two weeks now and first of all I’d like to say thanks to Commissioner of Police Ms. Shanta Knowles for allowing me and giving me an opportunity to serve in another capacity here in the Northern Bahamas.”
Goodman shared that he intended to reach out to the community and young people. “We’re gonna go into the schools. Anyway I could really reach out to the schools and some of those things that we see happening in some of the schools and see how we can somewhat transform the minds of some of our young persons,” he said.
The Assistant Commissioner encouraged collaboration between the police force and community leaders and organizations. He said, “remember its three things that can make the community. You have the schools. You have the churches, and then you know, but charity begins at home. At the end of the day, it’s where I start off at home and before I go to any one of those other communities it always starts at home.”
Goodman replaces Assistant Commissioner of Police Advardo L. Dames.
