Approximately four hundred illegal Haitian migrants that were captured and turned over to Bahamian authorities by the US Coast Guard remain held on the island of Inaqua awaiting repatriation. Assistant Director of Immigration, Rudolph Ferguson spoke to ZNS News about repatriation efforts given the current state of affairs in Haiti.
“Things on the ground in Haiti is very fluid. The situation is changing from minute to minute over there and we are guided by whatever is happening on the ground in Haiti. We don’t want to send our aircrafts down there and then there’s an incident and that is the only thing that is preventing us from moving. All system on our side is ready to go. It is just a matter of getting that kind of authorization from the Haitian authorities before we can proceed.”
