Members of the House Of Assembly delivered message of condolences on the occasion of the tragic passing of former Member of Parliament for Tall Pines and former Deputy Speaker of the House, Don Saunders.

The tributes were led by Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Cat Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador, the Hon. Philip Davis. He said, “the disbelief that grips us stems from not only from the manner of Don’s passing but from the realization of all that has been stolen from us wisdom, leadership, friendship. Don embodied the best of what we aspire to be as public servants dedicated, compassionate and resolutely focused on the betterment of our Bahamas.”

Davis added, “as we endeavor to pay tribute to Don the weight of sorrow and the struggle to comprehend this senseless loss is upon each of us. The void left by his departure is a testament to the impact of his presence, a reminder of the fragility of life and the enduring strength of the bonds that unite us that he exemplified.”

Leader of the Opposition and Member of Parliament for Marco City, the Hon. Michael Pintard also spoke highly of Saunders. He said, “those of us who knew him well knew that his was committed to this country. His passion was community work which is why he dedicated himself to working on transforming the landfill on Tonique Darling Highway. He was committed to students and would have no doubt been proud of all of the students who are gathered today in Parliament, top graduates throughout our family islands and New Providence. Don loved to work with schools and to inspire young people.”

Don Saunders was killed in an armed robbery at a business establishment in Gambier Village on March 27th. He died at the age of 49.
