A heartfelt memorial service was held at the Department of Environmental Health Services in honor of Hon Vaughn P Miller, MP, Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources – a leader remembered for his humility, integrity, and steadfast faith.
Moderated by Dr Rhianna Neely, the service brought together government officials, colleagues, and loved ones in reflection. Shavano Brown opened with a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, setting a tone of dignity and national pride throughout the open-air venue.
Among those paying tribute was Hon. Zane Lightbourne, MP, Minister of State for the Environment, who reflected on Miller’s quiet yet determined leadership and his vision for a cleaner, more sustainable Bahamas. Consultant Fayne Thompson spoke about the impact Minister Miller had on the Ministry – his openness and availability, as well as his no-nonsense approach yet care for all who worked either him. The Ministry of Environmental Health Choir filled the air with harmonies that lifted spirits and comforted hearts, offering a musical reflection of the unity Miller championed throughout his career.
Family members – including his uncle Anthony Miller, a former MP, brother Glen Miller, sister Geneeva Pinder, and cousin Rev Cheryl Carroll – joined in celebrating a life devoted to service. Rev Carroll led a poignant prayer for the staff, while Geneeva accepted flowers on behalf of the family, symbolizing the Ministry’s lasting gratitude and affection.
It was a simple yet powerful tribute – a reminder that the measure of a national leader is found not in titles, but in the lives he empowers and the lasting impact he makes for his country and countryman.
