Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey attended a number of back-to-school events on the weekend on the heels of the beginning of the 2026/27 academic year.
Among them was the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF)’s third annual fun day and giveaway on the Police Training College grounds as they partnered with several businesses and catered to hundreds of youngsters, offering a fun day filled with treats, games, bags full of essential school supply items, complimentary haircuts for the boys and braids for the girls, lunch, snacks, bouncing castles and more on August 29, 2026.
This year, the RBPF made preparations for 800 students across the island.
Minister Moxey was also on hand for the special presentations that were made to two community organizations during the Doctors Hospital event at its Rockwell Campus where more than 400 youngsters took advantage of the back-to-school festivities which included backpack giveaways, health screenings, face paintings and games.
Minister Moxey commended the RBPF for its labour of love in the Grand Bahama community and noted that it was a great opportunity for them to assist in getting the youngsters ready for school while at the same time treating them to a day of fun before they head back to the classroom.
“What I also love about it is the corporate community comes together and sponsors. So, you have a number of the corporate companies on the island as well as the NGOs who are giving back with their service,” she said.
Minister Moxey was also on hand for the special presentations that were made to two community organizations during the Doctors Hospital Health System event at its Rockwell Campus where more than 400 youngsters took advantage of the back-to-school festivities which included backpack giveaways, health screenings, face paintings and games.
“I am excited that Doctors Hospital continues to contribute to the Grand Bahama community. This back-to-school event shows their continued support of the kids in the community as well as the health-care needs in the community,” she said.
Minister Moxey noted that with Doctors’ Rockwell location set for opening soon, Grand Bahama will have additional state-of-the art facilities and commended the hospital for continually being a great corporate citizen with its philanthropy arm, as was again demonstrated that day with its special presentation to the Reach Out Organization and Falcons Boys Club.
Doctors Chief Executive Officer Dennis Deveaux said Grand Bahama’s event wrapped up a three-island initiative, having hosted one in New Providence and one in Exuma, and is designed to bring the free clinic to the community while making it fun.
He added that Doctors is also looking to make long-term partnerships with local organizations that speak to the same values it shares with people in the community.
