Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Cat Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador, the Hon. Philip Davis was present for a Junkanoo Parade in New Bight, Cat Island over the weekend.
At the event, Prime Minister Davis told the crowd, “Glenys Hanna Martin was able to get UNESCO to inscribe Junkanoo as an intangible property of The Bahamas.”
He added, “Junkanoo and freedom are synonymous because when you hear the goat skin drums beat. The pulsating sounds of our drum it does something to your whole soul.”
Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Hon. Fred Mitchell was also in attendance. He announced that the government intends to take Junkanoo to Broadway in New York City.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Mario Bowleg said the parade was a great improvement over the last parade.
