A man was shot and killed at a home on Key West Street where a birthday celebration was underway on Monday. A witness at the scene named Willamae called the ordeal “horrifying.”
Also on the scene was Police Press Liaison Officer, Chief Superintendent Chrislyn Skippings who briefed reporters. Skippings said, “the deceased was along with a second male who pulled in front of this residence in a dark colored vehicle. Both men exited the vehicle and opened fire on a male who was standing on the side of a residence in the yard just behind me. During the barrage of gunshots, the deceased was shot by his own accomplice. The accomplice left the area in an unknown direction. Another male who was in the yard doing some work, he was shot to his arm and he has been taken to hospital.”
Officer in Charge of the South Central Division, Chief Superintendent Dr. Chaswell Hanna said, “the police are the gatekeepers of the criminal justice system. The only way the system is going to be properly effective if all parts of the criminal justice system function.”
Willamae opined that more police patrols are needed in the area “because this is some dangerous time and you have to have more police to be watchin’.”
