The Member of Parliament for Central Grand Bahama returned to the island on Thursday after announcing his resignation from the Free National Movement (FNM) to join the Coalition Of Independents (COI) in the House of Assembly on Wednesday.
Lewis was met at the airport by a delegation of COI members and members of the media. He expressed his believe that the COI will make effective change. “I left the Free National Movement because I was not satisfied with what was going on. The level of disrespect. The level of undermining,” he said.
On whether he can retain his seat under the banner of the COI Lewis said, “they missed the purpose and they look at the faces in the crowd which did not matter to me. My purpose remains that same. I stood with the people then and I will stand with the people now.”
According to a statement released by the FNM on Lewis’ resignation, the Central Grand Bahama FNM Association did not support his nomination to run in the next general elections. He was questioned about speculation that the leader of the FNM, the Hon. Michael Pintard running against him in Central Grand Bahama. He said, “I have no idea what Mr. Pintard will do. I wish him all the best. I have no idea and I will not speak for him.”
