Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources, Hon.Vaughn P. Miller is attending a high-level meeting established only for Ministers of Environment from various countries for the respective parties at the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions and the UN Stockholm +50 Conventions in Stockholm, Sweden. He gave greetings on behalf of the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Philip Davis.

The BRS Conventions are multilateral environmental agreements, which share the common objective of protecting human health and the environment from hazardous chemicals and wastes. The Bahamas is a party to two of the three conventions: the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal, and the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. The objective of the Basel Convention is to protect human health and the environment against the adverse effects of hazardous wastes. The Stockholm Convention is a global treaty to protect human health and the environment from chemicals that remain intact in the environment for long periods and requires parties to take measures to eliminate or reduce Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
