Minister of Labour and the Public Service, the Hon. Pia Glover Rolle commented on the rise in unemployment on Wednesday. She said the survey was taken during cyclical contractions due to seasonal layoffs and construction and tourism trends.
She said, “the labour force participation has actually increased from 74.8% in late 2024 to 76% in early 2025. We’re finding that its not simply that jobs are unavailable. Hundreds of openings exist right in our Department of Labour database that we have simply been unable to fill. So the real challenge lies in building and aligning the skills of our workforce or the citizens that are jobseekers with the opportunities that are on offer.”
The minister stressed that the Davis administration has been proactive in investing in training programs and initiatives to ensure that Bahamians are ready for the jobs of today.
