The Ministry for Grand Bahama hosted orientation for the first of two cohorts of its 2026 Summer Employment Programme on June 26, 2026 at Freeport Bible Church.
Six-hundred-and-fifty of the 800 applicants were selected to participate in the Programme this year.
Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey while bringing remarks during the opening ceremony, encouraged the participants to take full advantage of the opportunity that has been afforded to them and treat every placement as an opportunity to learn.
“This summer programme is something that you should truly value. It can open many many doors. So it isn’t just about the job; it isn’t just about making those bucks, it’s about being able to learn, being able to grow and being able to be a part of the work environment,” she said.
Minister Moxey pointed out to the summer job seekers that she, too, took advantage of the summer opportunities that were afforded to her and it paid off, not only tangibly, but futuristically.
“It builds character. It causes you to understand various systems, it causes you to be able to work with others in order to get things done. You get to experience sometimes the highs and lows of different organizations, but what I think is required [is] for you to be committed, for you to be consistent,” she said.
Minister Moxey encouraged them to always put their best foot forward because they never know what the opportunity could mean for them and their future, as others will see their work and they will be rewarded.
Following the orientation, the students collected their placement letters and are set to begin work on July 6. The second cohort is expected to report to work in late July.
