Motorists on the western side of New Providence encountered heavy traffic as they attempted to make their morning commutes on Wednesday due to road closures by the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
Officer In Charge of the Traffic Division, Chief Superintendent David Lockhart spoke with reporters on why the roads were closed. He said, “the police department found it necessary to put a number of road closures and traffic diversions in place. We are quite aware that it caused an inconvenience to a lot of the motoring public but when it comes to security the police department and the Commissioner of Police cannot afford to water down security. We have any number of heads of state within the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and their security is number one to the Royal Bahamas Police Force and to the Prime Minister who is the Chairman of CARICOM for this year. So we found it necessary to make those road closures and those diversions to ensure that we had safe movement of the heads of state that was coming in.”
Lockhart says that motorists should be on the look out for more road closures on Thursday and Friday.
