The Ministry of Works has acquired heavy duty equipment including a backhoe, a skid steer loader and a jackhammer and compressor.

Minister of Works, the Hon. Alfred Sears said, “these machines along with the staff who have just been recently engaged will exponentially increase the capacity of the Ministry to better serve the Bahamian public.”

Senior Drainage Engineer Henry Moxey also spoke of the importance of the new equipment saying, “these could easily be deployed to family islands if we have a challenge in the family islands, like the situation we had in Exuma in the past whereby we had to look around for pump but now we have this asset that we can actually move there quickly and bring back if we need back.”

Speaking specifically to flood mitigation Moxey said, “we can now set up a make shift damn and we can discharge water whereby bringing relief to those community where the water level is actually rising.”

The new equipment was purchased from local dealer M & E Limited at a cost of approximately $700,000.
