Member of Parliament for Nassau Village Jamahl Strachan has been actively walking the streets of his constituency encouraging residents to take advantage of a recently established transfer station, an initiative that is helping families clear bulk waste from their homes and transform the appearance of the community.
The transfer station, implemented by the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, allows residents to dispose of large items such as old appliances, tree branches, yard debris and other unwanted materials that cannot easily be collected through regular garbage collection services.
Strachan said the initiative is already making a noticeable difference across Nassau Village as residents participate in cleaning their yards and surroundings.
“Nassau Village is evolving into a cleaner, more organized community thanks to the establishment of the transfer station,” Strachan said. “It serves as a hub for waste management, making it easier for residents to dispose of their waste responsibly. As we take pride in our surroundings, the transformation reflects our commitment to creating a healthier environment for everyone.”
According to the MP, the transfer station has created an opportunity for residents to conduct long-overdue clean-ups around their homes, removing bulky items that may have accumulated over time and contributing to a visibly cleaner neighborhood.
He noted that while many residents have already begun using the facility, continued awareness is key to ensuring that even more people take part.
“Awareness is key to maximizing its benefits,” he said. “While some residents are utilizing the station actively, I believe there’s an incredible opportunity for us to engage more community members. By spreading the word and highlighting its convenience, we can encourage everyone to take part in maintaining our beautiful community.”
Beyond improving the physical environment, Strachan believes the initiative is strengthening the sense of pride and shared responsibility among residents.
“The environmental impact is significant, as the transfer station helps reduce litter and promotes proper waste disposal, creating a cleaner area for all,” he said. “Socially, it fosters a sense of community responsibility and cooperation. When we take care of our environment, we strengthen our bonds as neighbors, leading to a more united and empowered Nassau Village.”
Residents have also been sharing positive feedback about the effort.
“Many are thrilled to have a convenient place to manage waste, while others are eager for more information on how to use it effectively,” Strachan said. “I’ve had inspiring conversations that show a genuine interest in sustainability and community improvement.”
The transfer station is intended to be a long-term solution for waste management in Nassau Village, helping the community maintain the progress that is now being seen throughout the area.
“The transfer station is designed to be a long-term solution for our community’s waste management needs,” Strachan said. “Together, we can ensure its success by promoting continuous use and engaging in regular assessments to improve its operations. By investing in this initiative, we’re paving the way for a sustainable future for Nassau Village.”
