The Minister of National Security, the Hon. Wayne Munroe spoke with ZNS News about the current state of crime in the country.
He said, “if they’re searching for a silver bullet, something that will stop it all at once, to my mind it overlooks what we can do practically to stop more of our young men being dragged into these gangs. If we stop that the gangs will continue to proliferate.”
The Minister also addressed the Bail Act. ”We are saying that people who admitted to bail on murder are killed publicly which creates a public safety issue and is a reason that the court can remand. The Court of Appeal has upheld remands for the person’s safety and for the safety of the public. In two cases last year the Attorney General’s point is that the prosecutors have to be more aggressive in their abjections to bail and then aggressive in appealing the matter forward.”
