The official ceremony for launch of the new high school history textbook, ‘Towards a Common Loftier Goal’ took place, Tuesday morning, April 29, 2025 at the historical Southern Recreation Grounds, situated at the intersection of Baillou Hill Road and Market Street. The Ministry of Education and Technical and Vocational Training hosted this event, featuring remarks from the Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis and the Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin.
A presentation of the book was made to the Governor General, HE the Most Hon. Dame Cynthia Pratt. During her speech, Minister Hanna-Martin highlighted that The Bahamas has not updated its history textbook since 1982. She expressed her gratitude to the Prime Minister for his support and for providing her with the opportunity to make this significant change in history. Additionally, Minister Hanna-Martin acknowledged her dedicated staff for their excellent work. The launch took place in conjunction with commemoration of a pivotal day in Bahamian history, the 60th Anniversary of ‘Black Tuesday.’
