Member of Parliament for North Eleuthera, the Hon. Sylvanus Petty has confirmed that he will not seek re-election in the 2026 general elections.
When asked by reporters about the reason for his decision on Wednesday Petty said he needs a mental break. He also revealed his intention to contest the general election expected in 2031. He said, “We don’t have a 9 to 5 job. It’s always constantly on the go…so I have to get back to just some me time for my family and just to take a mental break that’s basically it.”
Petty assured that he will be working along with Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) Chairman, Fred Mitchell and others to ensure that the PLP is re-elected. He also revealed that he has given no recommendations for his replacement.
It was announced earlier this week by the PLP Chairman that Petty and the Member of Parliament for MICAL, the Hon. Basil McIntosh will not seek re-election.
