Free National Movement (FNM) Leader, Michael Pintard addressed supporters after the preliminary results of the 2026 general election were revealed showing the FNM was not successful in its bid to govern the country.
Pintard spoke at a press conference at FNM headquarters in Grand Bahama. He told reporters, “I called Prime Minister, Philip Davis, I congratulated him on his party’s victory at the polls and offered him my and our best wishes. He has my prayers for the work ahead and he has the assurance that His Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, the one that he will face in the House Of Assembly will exactly be committed to the Bahamian people and show loyalty to the causes that affect their lives. Today, the Bahamian people made their choice. The people of The Bahamas have spoken and we accept their decision. That is how a democracy works.”
Mr. Pintard was questioned about the future of the FNM and his leadership after two by-elections losses and now losing the general election. He said, “I believe in conventions. I’ve honoured it over the time that I have served as leader of the party. In four and a half years we have held three conventions, two that involved the leadership. So I’m absolutely committed to that convention. But more importantly, I’m committed to having a discussion with the team and over the course of the next few days we will make a decision and we’ll let you know.”
Michael Pintard has served as Leader of the FNM since 2021.
