Progressive Liberal Party National Chairman, the Hon. Fred Mitchell recently spoke with ZNS News about the government’s economic agenda for the island of Grand Bahama.
Mitchell said, “you just have to look at where we were in the middle of COVID, dead as a doornail and there’s been a rapid recovery since that time to the point where despite the issues of cost of living people have money in their pockets, the tourists are in town and there’s economic activity which is being generated. So I think that it’s clear the country is progressing and we are looking toward a second term because some things are in mid flight will require the application of the government’s policies in order for this to continue.”
Opposition Leader and Member of Parliament for Marco City, Michael Pintard released a statement to contrary. He said, “many of the specific deliverables that the Davis Administration committed to back in 2021 remain unmet.” Pintard also outlined sixteen items the Free National Movement intends to focus on in Grand Bahama should they win they next general election. They list included finding a suitable buyer for the Grand Lucayan Resort and finding a partner with resources and a world class operator for the Grand Bahama International Airport.”
Mitchell said, “we were just going over their record on this. Of purchasing a hotel of no value, of letting people who owned the hotel walk away with the insurance money and then putting the expense on the Bahamian people. And then the same thing with the airport, they repeated it, let them walk away with the insurance money. The Port defaulted on its obligations to the people of Grand Bahama. So it’s a bit rich for them to be saying all of these things. Having said that, the government’s shoulders are to the wheel.”
According The PLP National Chair despite complications and challenged encountered with some of the developments progress is being made and there will be progress in the coming months on the Grand Bahama International Airport and the Grand Lucayan Resort projects.
“In addition to that, of course, you have the work that is being done on the hospital, people can see that that’s coming up. So you can either paint a glass as half full or half empty and this is half full,” Mitchell said.
