Prime Minister, the Hon. Philip Davis was recently questioned about the government’s relations with the Grand Bahama Port Authority (GBPA) as arbitration continues between the two parties to settle a $357 million claim by the government.
The Prime Minister told reporters its nothing personal. He said, “we’re of the view that for that ship to be righted there’s need to be a change in ownership. There’s not anything personal about the Hayward family or St. Georges family and I continue to say that.”
Mr. Davis said the relationship between the government and the GBPA remains civil and that the lines of communication are still open.
He also maintained that the actions taken by the government are in the best interest of Grand Bahamians. “What I am doing is attempting to ensure that the Grand Bahama potential is realized and any obstacle that will prevent that from happening I intend to have it removed,” Mr. Davis said.
The Prime Minister visited Grand Bahama over to weekend where he attended the 60th anniversary celebrations of Kelly’s Freeport.
