Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Cat Island, Rum Cay and San Salvador, the Hon. Philip Davis toured the construction site of the new airport in New Bight, Cat Island over the weekend.
Mr. Davis said, “this is the New Bight International Airport that’s now being constructed. It’s been long in the making and I want to thank the contractor, Bishop Roker, who has been very assiduous in enduring that this work moves. I’m impressed today at how far he has come since I last came. He’s moving at lightning speed and it seems as though he’ll be quite ahead of schedule if things continue to move as he is doing it.”
The Prime Minister said that site is truly going to be an international airport. “It can also be a hub for some of the southeastern islands where airlines could come here and the commuter airlines can pick up passenger here to take to other island to the south. This is truly international and this aspect of it is to ensure that we get the proper IKO rating for this total airport.”
Pointing out the various areas of the unfinished facility. Mr. Davis said there is space for Air Traffic Controllers, a fire engine and an administration building.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the project was held in March 2023.
