Police on the island of Grand Bahama conducted Operation Downtown Turn Around to assist in combating criminal activity in the area.
Officer In Charge of the Central Division Superintendent Alvardo Dames said, “the business owners allow our officers to receive feedback from them. Our officers go door to door, store to store hear the needs and the concerns of each of our clients, that’s how we view them, and then we tailor our policing strategy to effectively police the downtown district.”
Dames says that one of the keys to the success of the operation is high visibility. “We implemented the mobile patrols. There have been strategic road checks throughout the downtown area, as well as the continued business community engagement and it has reaped dividends for us. We’ve seen a decrease in criminal activity as well as vagrants activity in the downtown area.”
