Officers of the Royal Bahamas Police Force conducted a walkabout in the Nassau Village community where a 16 year old girl was recently shot and killed in her residence.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Zhivargo Dames was a part of the delegation.  He told ZNS News, “when we were here before we have done many things to assist this community whether it be with the derelict homes or the vehicles that needed to be removed.  These places where members of the public knew that crimes were happening and they were cleared down.  So I’m very pleased of this initiative.”

The Assistant Commissioner also asked the public to join the CCTV program.  “If you have CCTV cameras at your residence you can register those cameras with us.  An accident happens no longer would we have to come to your residence, that piece of footage we’ll be able to get it directly into the Real Time Crime Center.”

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Anthony Ferguson was also a part of the delegation.  He spoke about the intention of the walkabout saying, “Urban Renewal officers from all eleven communities across New Providence, they are here today assembled.  We are here and we’re gonna go throughout this community to do door to door inquiries as is expected of them.  And we are trying to ascertain ways that the community can partner with us, we partner with them, so that we can reduce crime, reduce the fear of crime in these communities.”

The goal of the walkabout was to promote safety and community building.
