Rotary officials also presented a 45K Caterpillar generator, valued at $50,000 – a gift for the Moore’s Island All Age School – in the name of Stephen Gardiner, Olympic 400 metres gold medal champion, and former student of this school.
On hand to witness the presentation were Mr. Gardiner; representatives of Rotary Bahamas including Barry Rassin, Past Rotary International President; Charles Sealy II, Past District Governor of District 7020; MOE officials including Serethea Clarke, Acting Permanent Secretary and Dr. Marcellus Taylor, Director.
Kendal Strachan, Governor-Rotary District 7070-East Director of Operations, Rotary Bahamas Disaster Relief said, “It is the goal of Rotary to ensure that every student from each of the schools in the Abaco district have access to the tools which are necessary for them to function. With Literacy Month to be celebrated in September, it is the goal of Rotary to ensure that no student is left behind.”
He gave an overview of Rotary’s Home Repair and Restoration Program – an initiative in mainland Abaco of the Rotary Bahamas Disaster Relief Committee – which was founded September, 2019, and has to date repaired and restored over 100 homes.
Accepting the generous donation, the Hon. Jeffrey Lloyd, Minister of Education said, “We are proud of the work we are doing in education but it could not be done without you.”
He said the Ministry is anticipating an extraordinary and dynamic year in education in The Bahamas but it could not be possible without partners like the Rotary Clubs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the indefatigable spirits of its members.
