The Special Economic Recovery Zone order expired December 1st, 2022. The order benefitted residents of Abaco and Grand Bahama who were affected by the devastation caused by Hurricane Dorian offering special tax concessions in their rebuilding efforts. Minister for Grand Bahama, the Hon. Ginger Moxey gave an update on how people can still benefit from the concessions.

“We all recognize that the SERZ order would have ended on the 1st of December, 2022. However, this compassionate government has decided to ensure that on a case by case basis those who have been impacted by Dorian can still apply and that those would be considered.”

Shadow Minister of Finance, the Hon. Kwasi Thompson has said that not extending he SERZ order was heartless. He also says that the SERZ order provision is critical to the full recovery of Grand Bahama. In response to Thompson’s commits Minister Moxey said, “heartless would be when they ended it for vehicles, for those who had lost vehicles and didn’t have the time to get their new vehicles, because you know people have other priorities, and they ended it. And we came in and we restored it, we renewed it. And so, I would call that heartless.
