Demolition continued at the All Saints Shantytown community on Tuesday after it was halted by police due to resistance from residents earlier this month.
After some residents had relocated from the property during the stay of demolition the exercise on Tuesday went smoothly with heavy security presence provided by the Royal Bahamas Defence and Police Forces.
One resident opined, “some of those who moved out their home, they find places to go and they put their furnitures and their stuff different places and shacking up with their family or their friends.” When asked how he felt about the demolition of the shantytown, he said, “I am very torn about it, like I say, these good friends of mines over the years. It’s a good lil community where everybody love each other and look out for each other, you know, so that’s what I’m torn about. But like I say, government did an orderly job with it.”
Demolition exercises are expected to continue to the end of the week.
