The Bahamas Wildlife Enforcement Network (BahWEN) officially held the soft launch and opening of its new headquarters at #6 West Bay Street, September 18, 2026.
The new state-of-the-art facility brings together operational capabilities, intelligence gathering, and a training hub that includes residential accommodations for recruits undergoing their 20-week course.
Government and law enforcement officials from various arms of national security, guests and staff gathered for an afternoon of celebration of the new headquarters for BahWEN which marks a very significant milestone: It in fact gives the organization a centralized homebase and creates stability for the continued efforts towards protecting and preserving wildlife in The Bahamas.
Minister of National Security, the Hon. Myles LaRoda delivered the keynote address highlighting that the government will always support growth and development in National Security and the protection of national resources. He explained, officers on our waters at first light, in our forests, ports, and along our vast coastlines would deter opportunity to poachers, traffickers and illegal loggers.
BahWEN’s Lead Designate, Commander Desiree Corneille brought remarks giving praise to the new headquarters as “home,” a significant step and affirmation of their mission. It highlighted, The Bahamas takes measures to protect its birthright resources.
After further speeches, there was an official ribbon cutting ceremony including Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources, the Hon. Jomo Campbell and Michela Barnett Ellis, MP for Killarney.
