Andrew Newry Jr., 16, known as AJ, along with another young male were shot and killed on Monday evening on Faith Avenue in New Providence. AJ’s family spoke with ZNS News to share their grief and remember the teen.
AJ’s father, Andrew Newry Sr. was visibly distraught as he said that his son had his challenges. He said the last time he spoke to his son he told him, “I ga dash by the shop to get the plantain and potatoes.” He went on saying, “I went to the store, come back, my shot got shot for nothing.”
Newry Sr. added, “my son is a good boy. Everyday I go to work my son does help me all this last week and this week. I building a lil kitchen, my son was my only help.”
AJ’s aunt recounted that her son spoke to AJ after he was shot asking him who did it but the teen provided no response.
This incident brings that murder count to 30 since the start of the year.
