Update on Incident at C.C. Sweeting Senior High School
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology wishes to provide an update regarding an electrical incident that occurred today at C.C. Sweeting Senior High School.
Three students sustained minor burns following an incident involving a faulty electrical wire feeding into the school campus. They were seen by the school’s nurse who advised that the injuries were not severe but advised that the students present at a clinic or PMH for further medical attention. The Ministry deeply regrets that our students were impacted. A Ministry team was dispatched to the school immediately to assist in managing the situation, and key personnel remain on the ground to monitor the work being undertaken by Bahamas Grid.
Bahamas Grid personnel are currently on the campus undertaking the necessary work to ensure that the electrical issue is fully addressed and does not persist, as this issue also affects the surrounding area, as we also had to dismiss the Centre for Deaf early today as well.
As a precautionary measure, the school was dismissed early today while the corrective work undertaken.
The Ministry understands the concern that an incident of this nature may cause for parents, guardians and the wider school community. We assure the public that we are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves and are working closely with Bahamas Grid, BPL and school administrators to ensure that the campus is safe.
The safety and well-being of our students, teachers, administrators and staff remain our highest priority. We regret that our students were affected and thank parents, guardians and the C.C. Sweeting Senior High School community for their understanding and cooperation as we work to resolve this matter.
