A new U.S. president taking office today. Joe Biden will be sworn in as the 46th president of the united states on the west front of the us capital in Washington, D.C.’ Kamala Harris will also be sworn in as the new Vice President, making history as the first female, first black person and first south-Asian to hold that position. This as current president Donald Trump leaves office today.

Now the inauguration will look a little different this year, with a scaled back ceremony and heavy security after insurrectionists stormed the capital building and tried to overturn the election results some two weeks ago.

The tourism minister Dionisio D’Aguilar weighed in on today’s inauguration.

“It’s wonderful to see democracy work and it seems as if the United States is having a peaceful transfer of government, which happens in all democratic countries and so we are fully supportive of that” he said.
